Public Hop Harvest - Learn about Hops (September 02, 2026)

It's time to harvest our hops at the Alderbrook Learning Garden! We invite the public to join us in the garden for this workday.

Come help us harvest the hops or just learn something about how to grow this fun perennial crop. They'll be taken to Fort George Brewery the following day to be used in their annual Cohoperative beer which is brewed with donated hops. Even if you don't join us for harvest, you can head to the Fort George courtyard and help process the hops from 9 am to 2 pm on September 2nd.

If you plan to help harvest, you'll want gloves and long sleeves as the plants can be a little rough/sharp.

Come see what else we're up to at the Alderbrook Learning Garden.

Questions? Reach out to Missy at outsideastoria@gmail.com

Tree Talk: Giant Sequoia and Coast Redwood in Oregon (September 12, 2026)

Join Dan Stark, OSU Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Agent, at the Flavel House for a conversation about giant sequoia and coast redwood in Western Oregon. Participants will hear all about these iconic tree species and will have the opportunity to see and touch the famous giant sequoia planted by Captain George Flavel’s gardener circa 1890. Tree hugging is also encouraged!

Can't make it but want to learn more about these trees? Check out this great resource from OSU Extension: Growing redwood and giant sequoia in Oregon | OSU Extension Service
